In the INCM007 we proposed 2 options for the EASA009 in Italy: in that occasion was not possible to have Rome as location so…I was a little bit sad…
For this reason we’re organizing a SESAM009 in Rome!
Yes!!!I’m very very happy becausethis Sesam will be the “introduction” of our Easa009 in Valcamonica and because this is the solution for show you a complet vision of our country.

Next Jan-Feb there´s a really interesting course about Participative Design in Lima and the southern earthquake damaged areas of Peru. I would really like to go, but am a bit afraid of going alone with my zero knowledge in spanish.

The idea of participation is basically understood as the user’s intervention in the design process. In communities in need such as El Carmen, this process has the potential of creating an inexistent cohesion amongst its members, which could help in the development of future processes and efficient overcoming of the disaster. Detaching participation as a patronised form of social help, and rather proposing a new responsibility and commitment on behalf of the user; it is important to acquire at university the necessary skills and notions in order to proceed in processes of this nature.
Participation in architecture has a long history; however there are few experiences which have theorised over this process. This is an experimental course which explores architectural tools and participative methods in order to generate contemporary knowledge on this practice.

Ok, the web is finally under programmin. So, here for everyone to see is the structure of the site the Archive group made on the INCM007 in Motovun, so if anyone has some suggestions or comments feel free.. It’s better to discuss this now then after the programming is done and then we’ll have to redo stuff. And people, please be precise and offer solutions if you think something should be different.

hi, i’m julianna and i study architecture in rome. me and some friends we are going to come to berlin on 9 december; not going to stay enough :( , only 4 days for explore the city and get all the information that we need for the berlin urban planning project that we work on now…but we would also like to meet some easa people, so, if any of you will be in berlin in that period let us know…

Ahhhh u guys have had an amazing time, wasn’t surprised at all… of course you did. Me very very sad couldn’t come to Denmark.Need a serious easa weekend or easa people around me…:( but think happy thoughts, there are photos to look at so add add dear people so we can enjoy!!!

final report, minutes and guide are all finished, 6 DVD’s with copies of it are already in copenhagen with our hero marko (who is gonna be the ONLY croatian participant in sesam). so cph, aarhus, sweden, alki and ireland you have a copy for yourselves, you other guys are just gonna have to fight over the last one or burn it.

we’ll upolad it somewhere cause the file is 19 MB and to big to send.

Ok,

Kosovo, not a designated nation as such yet it has a presence on the EASA quota. I wasn’t there in Belgrade so can someone email me the minutes? or post a reply.

United Kingdom gets 8 places from 300 under the quota system. If we were to recognize the UK as 4 countries, that would mean they would have a minimum of 16, 4 from each of Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland. I think these guys have as much of a right as Kosovo.

So what I think would be a fair thing to do would be to give priority to participants from these countries on any extra places.

hello EASA body mass!

A question for you all. We have been discussing our programme of events for EASA 2008. There was an idea to host a movie night in Dublin. It would be held in an outdoor cinema, with other screens in-doors. This outdoor space is of some architectural merit and it is very enjoyable to actually watch a movie there. We would like to show Movies set in around, and based on {adaptation}. Some of us like this idea, some of us don’t – so please let us knwo what YOU want.

Pros;
- enjoyable place and space to be in
- located in the city centre so people can go away for a little bit to one of the many nearby bars
- will happen on the night before we spend all day travelling on coaches, so the less hangovers the better
- there is a rich series of movies we would like you all to see

Cons;
- it might (ie it WILL) rain
- it’s very hard to keep EASA people still for 20 minutes, let alone 90 minutes
- some of the movies even we find hard to understand
- the logistics of getting 400 people in and out of a location bang in the centre of the city (might have to get buses or something…..)
- people will just get bored, and then, get drunk


so, let us know if you reckon it is a good idea, or a waste of our time to pursue.

I thought i could go to Denmark and present it in person, but i cannot, so here comes a brief description of what i saw at the XXIV. ELEA, as far as i know first ever european to participate in its history. (Not in the ELEA South though, where if not anyone else, some French guys, not from EASA, participated last year in Chile.) For what very little i saw of the country, i lived my greatest ever cultureshock, never having been outside of Europe before, but the event itself, in spite of all the differences, had quite the same essence as EASA. As for the organization, the main difference is that it is much more formal than ours, the coordinators (~NCs) have a more hierarchical structure as they elect a president, vice-president, secretary and a treasurer (or how on earth it is called in English….)(which last one implies that they also have a common budget to take care of, what, to be honest, i don’t know if we have); the assembly is, or at least this one was, more connected to universities: the student lectures were held in 4(!) different unicersities of San Salvador; the events – inauguration, lectures, clausure – are also a bit more formal than ours, even the parties are less only about drinking and dancing, and are more cultural. This is for the organized ones, of course, the spontaneous ones occurred every time we had 5 free minutes, as there was always someone to start to play some percussion, and soon everyone nearby was dancing. The whole ELEA is a bit more „fancy”, so to say, than EASA, mostly for the accomodation, which is in hotels, and for that kind of formality i talked about. Also, transportation was organized not only to the excursions, but also from and to the airport and between the hotels and the workshop and lecture places. Another great difference is that the ELEA is not nearly as much about workshops as EASA: as far as i know, this was the very first one where workshops were obligatory for everyone and lasted the whole week (shorter and „free-choice” workshops were held in earlier ones as well), and that is said to be an EASA influence. The workshops were divided into 3 categories: spacial, conceptional and visual, every applicant could choose from these three, but to the concrete workshops they were sorted randomly (so as to avoid having workshops with participants from onlyone country for ex.). Also, the themes were proposed by a team of young local architects, the tutors, from different countries, „only” conducted them. Recycled materials were provided by the organisers, and each workshop had a budget of around 60 USD to buy other things needed. Practically every evening, except for that of the Feria Latinoamericana (~national evening) and the excursion, there were lectures of invited architects and other artists, and two mornings there were student lectures. The ELEA is also, in a way, more competitive than EASA: the bests of the student lectures, just like those of the academic and cultural stands and the Arqui-fashion, are prized at the clausure event. The academic stands, installacions of student projects of each country, were presented the last day, along with the workshop results. The cultural stands were part of the Feria Latinoamericana, just as a presentation – a video and a dance, in most cases – of the countries. To the stands they brought, apart from some food and drinks, books and papers of architecture, folkloric artefact and so on, but in principle (in practice not that much) these were for sale. The Arqui-fashion is a real fashion-show that consists of the presentation of a video of a contemporary architect of each country and a costume, preferably made of recycled materials, that represents his/her style.
The assembly lasts for one week; this year it had about 300 participants, „only” so much because of the workshops, at earlier ones there were 500-600, even 1000 participants. As only 14 countries participate (and some others as guests), the delegations are way bigger than at EASA, up to 50-60, even more people. Officially it cost 350USD; being the only european i didn’t stay at either of the hotels, but in the house the organisers rented for themselves, and paid only 230. The whole event is in Spanish, of course, and even though i speak it all right, i did have quite some difficulties in understanding all the different accents.
So much for the professional and objective part: personally i can say it totally unforgettable, i’d never seen people so open, with so much positive energy and so full of music, nor had i recieved such a warm welcome as there. As soon as i can i’ll put up some pictures and videos (which also may explain this feeling a bit better :-) ), but surely you can find some already (on youtube i already saw some).
The next ELEA will be in Guatemala, the theme is the evolution of Latin-American architecture; when i get the presentation and some details from the organisers, i’ll put them up as well. I don’t think i can go next year, but it’d be really grat if some easians went.
Any eleans reading this, if i wrote something that’s not correct, that is for not remembering, and please tell me :-)

I know it exists, and I’ve been trying everything now but with no luck.

Also Linus and I are looking for a place to crash in London from dec. 6th -> 10th but it seems London is empty EASA wise. Any help? Suggestions?
