Hi everybody! I´m moving to Am´dam in March and I heard it´s really hard to find a place to stay. If anybody has any suggestions, knows about a place… please let me know. I need a place for 2 from March to the end of July. And if any of you has a couch to lend for a few days, it would be lovely:) hostels are sooo expensive…

Hi everybody,
We are currently working with an Irish governmental agency to secure funding for EASA Ireland 2008, from the European Commission’s Youth in Action program. In order to apply for this grant we are organising an extraordinary workshop of max. 25 participants, the subject of which relates to the aims of the Youth in Action program.
There are several regulations we have to abide by, and must have our application ready for the 31st of January.
We need people to apply for this workshop now, we require participants to commit to this and send us on their name, some details and a travel cost estimate.
Participants will be missing out on the opportunity to apply for the variety of workshops at the assembly. If the workshop is feasible and the grant is received, participants will be refunded up to 70% of their travel expenses – this is the incentive to forego the opportunity to apply to another workshop. As part of this experiment, there will be no established tutors for this workshop but there will be a brief.
The brief and a poster will be available as part of a participants pack on the EASA008 website within the next 24/48 hours. Applicants must declare their interest by the end of the 26th of January (next Saturday).
Theme:
There is a movement of people in Europe – individuals and families relocate from country to country, city to city, in pursuit of their version of happiness – be it climate, security, education, society or material wealth. There is a new culture of movement and migration made possible by open borders, market forces and advances in transportation. There is a population constantly in flux – there is a flux culture.
This seminar/thinktank/workshop aims to deal with an issue that effects people all over greater Europe. The effects of Immigration and Emigration on our nation states are well documented, our seminar aims to deal with the effects of this phenomenon on the built environment: our regions, cities, neighbourhoods and buildings, from the point of view of young academics in the fields of architecture and urbanism.

On friday 18 th of jan at 19:00 it will be a lecture from zumthor in the kunsthaus in Bregenz, austria..i couldnt find out, what language, probably german not english…but still the exhibition is also very good to see and this one will end on 20 th. who s coming?
ill be there anyway and if you need a place to stay, its no problem.

Lads, what’s the story with Iceland? Does anyone have any Icelandic contacts, especially with the architecture schools? It’d be great if we could have an Icelandic link reopened and a couple of Icelanders strolling around Letterfrack this summer.

My one is starting pretty grim since we were warned at uni that these few weeks might be the worse we’ve had in our lives…:)niceeee
so desperate times call for desperate measures… besides the milion handins portfolio and stuff we have a module called Participation+realisation,which if u ask me is shit but anyway and a waste of time, so has anyone else been ‘fortunate’ to have it as a module, does anyone have a clue or has written done something(that maybe i can pretty please use)?!or any useful place web where i can find something about it…

The AMD Open Architecture Challenge is an open, international design competition. Its aim is to develop not one but many solutions for building sustainable, multi-purpose, low-cost technology facilities for those who need them most. Three community partners have been selected to participate in this year’s Challenge. Each site poses a unique set of design constraints and opportunities. While the needs of each client are unique, the hurdles they face in embracing technology to offer access to education, healthcare and the global marketplace are shared by millions of people in communities all over the world.
You do not have to be trained architect to participate. Anyone can enter. Entrants are invited to develop a design for one, two or all three sites.
Each design entered into the competition will be published and shared on the Open Architecture Network so that any community looking for similar design solutions will have access to them.

Embarrassing sound from dead body…
My dear Easian fellows, this is a voice from newest architect in my country since I’ve finished with my graduation last week. It took me embarrassing three months to complete that crap… As my co-workshoppers know, I was going to continue with developing code for archive web-site as soon as I graduate. Instead of going in kilometers with my words, I will ask Luis and other people that were in same workshop with me what happened from Greece, ’cause I haven’t had time to stay in line with you. Only thing that Dubravko and Balsa said to me was that more people are involved in this “Hampster-project” of ours :+)
So, I plead that someone write letter containing informations about all things that are changed, and of definite structure look.
I’ll be back in shape in a week (just to reset my brain :+) So, I wish you all happiest New Year and all other days and holidays that are coming!!!

This special morning, like so many before, the rays of the morning sun shone down a 5000 year old neolithic structure and grave in ireland: a passageway tunnel called Newgrange.
This unique structure, which is 500 years older than the pyramids of Egypt and 1000 years older than its more well known Pagan English neighbour Stonehenge, has been a sacred space on our little island which has been celebrating life, its cycles, the connection between the energy from the heavens and the life bearing capability of mother earth since the times of neolithic man. We may not fully understand the understanding our ancestors had of the mystery that is life, but many believe that they lived in a more “ecological” time, understanding, working with and celebrating the cycles of nature. Today, Friday the 21st of December 2007, is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the beginning of the next year, 5000 years ago early man had the mathmathical, astronomical, spiritual, construction skills to build this structure. AND, its still watertight!!! This is what Newgrange looks like from the air, a circular structure with a 20+metre, gently upsloping, tunnel within that has fully lit up for the first 18 minutes of this day for a long long time.
EASA was previosly told about this structure / old clock in paraplu @ EASA04-Roubaix / la condition publique and in an earlier post: Living
Christmas falls at this time of the year after Christianity spread and incorporated existing pagan festivals. With the solstice the longest night passes and the new phase starts, this led to what we have today: “A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.”
So this is just a little bit about the island you will be spending EASA2008. Im glad that the 08 team have put so much effort into what I imagine will be an excellent EASA, well done to one and all. Things have moved on a long way from those early INCM days of 2001 in Berlin. I feel they are commited to thorough investigation into some of the most pressing issues for both Ireland and also our world…. how we can adapt to live in a way that works with and celebrates life and nature… how it was on the island all those years ago; our returning to the start of the cycle…

Im organising the architecture part of an art festival called Student Fest wich is happening each year in my city, Timisoara,Romania..:)..It lasts for a week, this year 12th-18th of may and during this time we are proposing some workshops on a certain theme, lectures and parties.Accomodation and food for free..:)..
