wrote fritjof capra in “the hidden connections” (2002)
this new “network age” really came into being at the closure of the WTO talks in Seattle due to massive public peaceful protest in november 1999- thats when the term “globalisation” started to get used in the mainstream world. the first indymedia node was also set up at this time in Seattle and since then has developed into a global network of 150+ nodes in 90+ countries.
The basic viewpoint held by the “seatttle coalition” was
-existing rules of global trading are unfair and have to change
-the public are not being informed about these issues as the mainstream media has “vested interests”
-new process`s are needed to both challenge, reform or end todays unfair trade rules and to inform the worlds public
-along with this a new communication system is needed to facilitate open transperent dialogue for those in civil society so as to either create an alternative fair system or fix the present one
in january 2001, the “seatttle coalition” held the first “world social forum” in Porto Alegre, Brazil. since then there was WSF2, again in Porto Alegre in 2003 and this year WSF3 in Mumbai, India
the technology is already here for us and people are already maximizing it, but it is still early days and so there is a lot more we can do
it is very difficult and near impossible for most to travel and participate in the social fora but it is possible for us to set up a new system, whereby the real and the virtual worlds work together to facilitate a wider participation in the social forum.
global civil society network project:
wider global world social forum process, whose main communication network is facilitated by indymedia network
it would be a situation whereby when there is a World Social Forum, say in Pakistan, the usual things happen but to expand on that a network is created so that in each country, or each area where there is an indymedia group a convergence or physical meeting centre is set up for the duration of the social forum. this could be say, dublins cultivate centre. the space would allow for those interested in these things to physically meet each other and also to be part of the world social forum. this would happen by live streams and web conferencing technology via the internet. ie- fritjof capra is talking about say “local greeen groups and a global eco city network” in pakistan. that is beamed out through the net and shown in real time in the different centres. in dublin 500 people are gathered in the main space at cultivate and watch the forum, one of our audience wants to add a comment, he lifts his hand, this is registered by indymedia person at computer who clicks to main site that ireland has a comment. this is registered on global network.
comments are taken and forum develops through same process as happens at present.
simply we would all be part of the process-
literally thinking and being able to act globally while acting and thinking locally
an initial attempt was made on Dec 2 2003 for
”global indymedia network project for world social forum in jan 2004″ it did not happen. but im sure that it is only a matter of time before this way of communicating becomes the norm.

Today is the first day of the congress of the architecture students from ex-Yugoslavia countries, which is organized here in Macedonia. I saw lot of EASA people here, the atmosphere is happy and positive. I just came back from the “welcome party” …So I wanted to share the smile on my face with you guys. Cheers….until France!

I was wondering what the plans are regards the EASA archives, and sorting through them at this EASA? I would be interested to get involved with this / work with this as we (UK) are proposing to host the INCM 2005, and a key part would be the exhibition of teh EASA past, current and future.

Also perhaps email reminders to each NC should go out, to encourage them to source what’s in their country now, and to bring it with them? Could this go in the French Bulletin?
Finally, I will probably be travelling to Lille for EASA from Denmark, so we should stay in touch for that at least.

The idea is to organise a archive scanning duties together with a librairy keeping duties
there is still lot to think for this matter

Textile is one of the themes of the EASA’004? I’m thinking about something like ultra-short “fashion” workshop. It’ll be fine expirience for a small teams or everyone who wants to take part…
For example: In the morning every team or individual participant obtains a shit of fabric. Size and color are the same for all… What clothes can they design & create till evening? All models will be demonstrated on the “fashion show” in the evening…
Anyone intrested in this idea?

Short one- or three-days workshops where an interesting part of the EASA’003 – they were creative source for another, longer… Also it’s possibility to have closer relations not only with the participants of your full-time worksop.
Did anyone have any ideas for a short worksop on the EASA’004? I think it’ll be good to have something of this kind.

We have been very busy working to bring up the architecture’s new multimedia site for one year with the intention that EASA would be really a ‘practical network for communication, meeting and exchange’ (see easaguide, versicle 2, Aims :) by using the new “tools”. It is turning out to be more difficult than expected initially, but finally we have found the good contacts in our school. We hope that this would be only the first step in a way to widen our vision.
Some of you had the chance to see the project when at Kalo we presented the first sketches and when at INCM we showed it to those who where interested. Finally, this will be the site: www.arkforum.org (but until we are able to solve some technical problems with the server it will be hosted here, www.arq.upv.es )
Here you can find more information, sketches… Right now it is development, but we hope than in 2 or 3 months time it can be completed, meanwhile the page will be tested, without your help this page wouldn’t be possible. For the time being, any suggestion, doubt, or criticism will be welcome.
Secondly, we have had some problems making free the access to the ftp, but at last its working, however we don’t know until when. Here you will find lots of photos from the INCM and more stuff…. Better late than never. www.arq.upv.es

its finally happening!
this thursday if u happen to be in belgrade, come to our faculty, we are opening the easa exhibition of the works submited at the econ pavillion. its the first in the range of activities we plan as an introduction to easa and the incm_bgd in autumn!
for those u cant come… i will post some photos after opening.
