Strange things can happen also on peaceful and sunny Saturday afternoons. For instance, you might be wandering the streets of Rotterdam with some people, decide to go to an exhibition and retrieve your long-lost believe in modern art. The guy who did it is Brian Jungen. The reason: finally some modern conceptual abstract stuff combined with real craftsmanship, meaning and sense, without the works being only appreciable because of its critical contents.



Anybody who happens to be in Rotterdam anytime soon should have a peek in Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, anybody else should look out for upcoming exhibitions by this guy anywere else.

I would like to start a thread to see some off the results when architecture GOES BAD!

A couple of months ago, some sort of mutant, hideous building appeared from behind its green shroud in Dublin City centre. The city architects heralded it as a ‘landmark’ development. It is sited beside one of Dublin’s most important building. But not only is this building absolutly disastrous, the ‘public plaza’ created beside it is worse. how can such a high profile firm like MBM arquitectes get it so wrong? Are the architects to fault for a system that allows input from politicians and planners that (in Ireland anyway) really dont have a fucking clue what good architecture is.

Hi everybody! I’m looking a place to live in London.. Can anyone help me out?

I’m going there from february for internship in 6 months.. It could be a room, a shared appartment, whatsoever; the studio is in London East but I’m interested in anything right now!!!!

So if anyone knows someone who knows someone who lives next to someone who heard of such a place PLEASE let me know!!!

we haven’t gicked ourselves so much out to count the weeks,minutes and seconds left…

unfortunately snow didn’t reach greece by now, so santa clause’s sledge got stuck in the sand!poor man..
anyway, his presents got a little bit delayed etc. etc.



but,hold your breath people cause in a few days you’ll be able to visit the easa007.gr site !!

A group of us lads(…and girls!!) are hitting the Portuguese shore for a bit in February, we are expecting something akin to an Irish summer so the shorts and bikinis will be out…watch out!!!

So any recommendations for architecture to see, people to meet, places to stay, clubs to party in, and waves to surf will be much appriciated.

In 2 weeks time the world tunes into dialogue from Kenya. Whats being discussed, hows it being discussed, why is it important?


The 7th edition of the World Social Forum brings the world to Africa as activists, social movements, networks, coalitions and other progressive forces from Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, Europe and all corners of the African continent converge in Nairobi, Kenya for five days of cultural resistance and celebration; panels, workshops, symposia, processions, film nights and much much more; beginning on the 20th of January and wrapping up on the 25th of January 2007.

Organizers in Kenya, throughout Africa and around the world will work together, both on-line and in face-to-face meetings, to build a temporary independent media center in Nairobi, Kenya, to provide communication during the January ’07 World Social Forum. This “convergence-based” IMC will provide text-based, audio, and (potentially) video coverage of the World Social Forum, both on-line and through a local low-power radio station, enabling independent media coverage of the WSF during the forum itself as well as access through the world wide web to the WSF by an international audience.

The IMC will also be a hub for trainings and hands-on media-making workshops throughout the World Social Forum. Thousands of organizers will be coming to the World Social Forum from around the globe, especially from Africa; this IMC will empower activists (especially those in Africa) to create effective independent media institutions in their countries. Also, all the equipment purchased for this IMC will remain in Kenya for use by the Kenya IMC and other Kenyan independent media projects. The IMC plans to be open from January 13 to January 25. The WSF itself takes place from January 20-25.


:: Global Radio nodes project ::

This is a proposal to Syndicate content from different nodes in social centers and other alternative media outlets during the WSF and combine it with content from Nairobi also. A kind of global collaboration on both virtual and physical.

Basically getting more social centres and other spaces to open up during WSF as local nodes around planet to go to to firstly listen to stuff live from kenya, but also maybe where they could have 2 way systems: being able to participate in forum without physically being there.

How?

1 – terrestrial and web radio stations can tune their stations into the radio streams from Nairobi. hopefully there will be many streams coming out of Nairobi during the WSF.

2 – physical spaces outside Nairobi can open for duration of WSF, or part of, with radio speakers playing the audio live from Nairobi, and video stream if it happens.
these physical spaces can have information, exhibition, films etc about the social forum project… possibly also computers tuned into imc-kenya for the duration of the forum, in the hope that the imc-kenya site becomes an active resourse during the wsf and beyond…
local forums or discussions can happen in these spaces about some of the issues raised within the WSF or about the nature of the WSF itself, where it is now, where its going etc…… already collectives in Dublin, Barcelona, Marseilles, Philidelphia, Ohio, Genoa are offering support.

3 – while the WSF is on, perhaps there is possibility of those outside Nairobi at home in their own spaces trying to experiment with the limits of how we can communicate as a global network while wsf is on. this might happen, who knows….

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to say our NYE was smashing! 25 EASA people all at Adams nice appartment. Even though Adam is building his new kitchen he managed to serve food for us. The food was delicious! We had mussels a la lille, steamed fish (a la?) lamb a la ireland, and mashed potatoes (a la?) – some EASA themes in the food anyway – Adam can perhaps explain better about this… I was the desert man, and made a good strong chocolate cake here’s the recipe (by request):

Ingrediens

Grated peel from two oranges
1 dl of orange juice
100 gr. butter
200 gr. dark chocolate 70%
4 eggs
170 gr. sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar
60 gr. of wheat flour

Cook orange juice and peel until only two spoonful remains. Let it cool off. Set the oven at 175°c. Melt the butter in a pot. Take it off the heat, add the chocolate and stir around until melted. Whip eggs, sugar and vanilla together. Add orange juice, chocolate butter and the flour. Pour the mix into a small baking form. Bake at the bottom of the oven for 55 minutes. Enjoy!

I want to thank Adam for a very good party (Some of us didn’t finish untill nine in the morning!), and thanks to the swe-team, cro/slo team ;) , the uk-team (Jim), the Dino-team (Jelk and his girlfriend) and big up to the DK-team. Thanks for being cool and thanks for another great memory in this wonderful neverending EASA saga.

did you notice how often some famous architecture is appearing in music videos? i always found that more than amusing. there is one french house video that is filmed in villa savoye but i cant remember what or who is it.

and i love how in this one they went all the way to barca to film it but one can actually see that only for few seconds at the beginning when there is a glimpse of la sagrada familia in the skyline.
