EASA weblog
Im not sure if you all know that an EASA weblog has been set up at easa.antville.org
It has an open discussion area and you can upload pictures
There are links from it to other areas with lots of pics, especially marko from austrias site
www.jell-paradeiser.at
many people from europe have viewed the site but only a few people are contributing to the discussions
why is this? I feel that it is because there is not to much things on the site for an outsider to respond to at present
so hopefully more and more interesting discussions will start to happen
eitherway when you go there……
have fun

EASA community
EASA, as a community is now in its mid twenties, like many of us
I am proposing that the EASA community, (european architectural students assembly), is more than a few hundred students gathering, communicating and doing things for 2 weeks during the summer. I believe that it is a full time living community who can communicate and do things all the time. Thereby ….
- doing more and more progressive and fun things, throughout the year
- having a wider and more interactive EASA body
- as there are many who just cant get to that summer event
- old and new EASA people can keep communicating
- people who might not necessarily be involved with architecture directly
how will we do this?
- By wanting to. DOing things is the important thing. We enjoy it. We do more and more
- By developing and using better communication systems. The internet and email is the main communication tool we use. We can use these more efficiently so that we have clearer communication
- By organising events that we can do physically at home in our own countries at the same time during the year
- By using the improved communication tools for online events, i.e., videoconferencing an online forum
- By getting more and more people involved, contact dead countries, get your whole school involved, get your friends
- By simply meeting up with each other more, sending letters, postcards, emails, videos. Having phone calls.
Communities communicate, we use the NETWORK to do so

EASA`s first LIVE european architectural event – sep 22nd 2002
“Towards the sustainable city” an event in every major european city
sunday the 22nd of september is international car free day.
Have a “reclaim the streets” free city party
The purpose of “international car free day” is an attempt by governments to encourage the public to use public transport
most european cities will zone off part of the city and provide free public transport.
In dublin, ireland this will happen too, but only in a very small area
Many of us here in ireland feel more can and should be done
so we are planning more than that.
We have organised irelands third free street party another “reclaim the streets”
We will take to the streets and have a major party. Last year we had @ 300 people and in may we had 1000+
Reclaim the Streets events are parties, but they are also demonstrations; demonstrations of our desire to have a say in how our city and our environment is run, demonstrations of an alternative vision of how public space should be used, demonstrations of ordinary peoples’ ability to organise their own celebrations, based on co-operation and mutual aid instead of competition and greed. Our demonstrations are celebrations of the range of visions of our world that are present in our society. We do not shout towards the deaf ears of politicians, instead we aim to empower people and give them a sense of their own potential for creativity and organisation.
This is architectural direct action; making better cities
in 1989 in berlin the first love parade happened with 150 people dancing on the streets
They danced FOR tolerance, respect and understanding between nations
Now you get around 1,500,000. People dancing on the streets every year there. fun
I propose that the n.c`s from all countries organise as many people as possible in their own country and if there is a “reclaim the streets”, participate and document it. Then report back to this article on the EASA-weblog after for further discussion about sustainable cities. If there is no RTS in your country, contact you friends and make one,
Have FUN

EASA 2003 – “sustainability”
EASA 1981 – local – the city
EASA 2003 – global – the world
Next years EASA is happening in denmark and the theme is “sustainability”
“A sustainable society is one that satisfies its needs without diminishing the prospects of future generations”
lestor brown, quoted in “the web of life” by fritjof capra
sustainability is about what goes on in yourself, your room , your home, your neighbourhood, your city, your country, your continent, your world, your universe. You become responsible for your actions and help bring about a healthier world. Learn about energy, waste, food and consumption, buildings and cities, transport
on the global level many people are finding out about the social, economic, political mechanisms like the world bank, W.TO. (world trade organisation)and I.M.F. (international monitory fund) which have created hugely destructive and unsustainable systems that cause @ 7,000,000 deaths every year and keep millions world-wide starving. They maintain human poverty and destroy our environments. This is the economic war that has been on since the 1970`s
all this need not be the way. Another world is possible.
Many people are challenging the W.TO. and I.M.F. We are fighting back,
In Seattle on November the 30th 1999, thousands protested on the streets and prevented the W.T.O. meeting from happening. More and more people are finding out about what’s going on. Individuals are educating themselves, organising themselves and taking direct action. As each year passes millions more join the fight.
Ecotopia is a 14 year old world environmental gathering. It happened in ireland this year with about 1500 people participating. It was a 2 week long gathering with people living together as a community in an 85 acre forest on the banks of a lake in county clare, ireland. We tried to live as sustainably as possible and had ongoing workshops covering all angles of “sustainability” from organic farming, green building, anti war talks, street theatre, how to take over a building, what to do if arrested etc.
Next years ecotopia is happening in the ukraine in mid august? There will be a bike tour to it. So I would encourage all of you to check it out and think about trying to get to the ukraine next year. Numbers are unlimited. And it’s a lot of fun

Growing network
networks are the systems which allow us to communicate. Talk, post, Telephone, internet and email, mobile phone, etc
we are developing a website that will be used as the main node for EASA to participate in the global network.
This is a continuation on from the work done at EASA 2002 in constructing the “samogor art gallery” as the central hub in samogor for meeting people and DOing things. a place to exchange ideas, communicate, experiment, learn, have fun.
The idea is to have a strong virtual system which allows for real events to happen. Ie. An online forum on “the future of EASA” happening in 30 different cities throughout Europe at the same time, with 5000 people participating in lecture halls, and from another 2000 people connected to independent internet points, whereever they are; vis, moscow, Thailand, peru, an aeroplane, even a space station? Who knows what we can do in the future?
The point is to know why!

FUSPEY architectural movement, (the revolution is on, here and now)
the revolution is on, here and now
>FUSPEY- fun – sustainable – peaceful – existence
the world view of humans is changing from the old mechanistic to the new systems, dynamic, network one
a revolution in how we see ourselves is happening
our perception of ourselves, our home and how we deal with each other is profoundly changing
why is this?
2 main events
1920`s we developed the technology to look at the structure of the atom.
1960`s we generated the first image of planet earth from space, we saw our home for the first time.
We are beginning to realise where we live; planet earth which just floats in space.
We are realising that life is profound, that we are all made up of atoms of which 90% is emptiness
We realise that we live in a closed system, that our planet has limited resources.
We are starting to take responsibility for being alive and we are trying to do what we can to live in a healthier way.
We view architecture as more than just designing buildings. It is about understanding and working with global systems, looking at the problems in this world and working together to create solutions
We are working toward the ideal of a FUN SUSTAINABLE PEACEFUL EXISTENCE
