We’ve received a few comments already, but obviously as they’ve come to the email account only we read them, and there needs to be a discussion, so now posting this here, in a new topic ‘INCM 2005’…

Please discuss / wait to see if more proposals come in and then discuss…

Proposal to hold INCM 2005 in the UK

EASA was initiated in Liverpool, UK, in 1981. In 2005 the 25th EASA will be held in Switzerland. To mark the 25th anniversary of EASA the NCs from the UK would like to invite the EASA community back to the UK to hold the INCM 2005.

We propose to keep the NC meetings the focus of the week, during the day. However, as the 25th anniversary is an important milestone, we would like to make some celebrations to mark the occasion. So we have the following suggestions:
• A series of evening lectures, including inviting the people who organised EASA in 1981 (once we have found them) to give a talk on what their intentions were, and what actually happened in 1981. Also inviting other organisers of EASAs past, and other speakers on student led architecture initiatives.
• To hold an exhibition (hopefully at RIBA – the Royal Institute of British Architects – headquarters) of each and every EASA, what EASA is, how the focus has changed over the years etc, basically a retrospective.
• And a big party of course…

Obviously the exhibition will be a lot easier to organise once the archive has been set up during the EASA in France this summer. We believe that as EASA as a community decided to make an archive, it speaks a lot about wanting to honour the past. When the archive has been made and all of the information has been brought together, it would be a shame not to have it displayed somewhere, if only for a month initially. After the retrospective has been organised, it could then reach other countries too.

Whilst the INCM 2005 is almost two years from now, tracking down the original organisers may take some time, and so we would like to start work on that as soon as possible.

We are not sure how this works, we should have brought it to discussion at the INCM in Slovenia, but it was only a butterfly fluttering in our minds at that point. Since the INCM, our resolve to offer to host the INCM 2005 has increased. So we ask for your support, and also your decision. We are unaware of any other offers as yet to host the INCM 2005, so if any other country is interested, perhaps they could also post a proposal, so that it’s an even playing field, and then would it be possible to have an on-line discussion and thrash it out to confirm whether we go ahead and try to contact the EASA forefathers, and foremothers?

We would also like to mention that although the UK has not been well represented in numbers attending EASA in recent history, that as an NC team we have already made headways and contacts with 22 of our 38 schools of architecture here, after recently giving a presentation at a meeting of student representatives from the schools of architecture in UK (called ARCHAOS). We feel confident that there is interest in EASA in the UK, and that we should be able to bring our quota of participants to EASA France in 2004, which will come through to assist with the organisation of the INCM, should we be chosen to hold it.

We would like to suggest that if any other countries would also like to offer a proposal for the INCM 2005, that this could be done within the next month, and posted to the NC list. Deadline of 3rd February? Then after that NCs could arrange to meet online to discuss whether the UK goes ahead and makes more concrete plans and contacts…?

Looking forward to hearing your views and comments.
