Panel discussion on ‘Methodology of diploma work’

Main focus of EASA network in recent years was closely on organizing the summer assembly and broadening the easa spirit to more countries. This year on INCM we would like to try and add another layer of using EASA and try to introduce it as sort of next step in development. EASA can be the interesting field of presenting how different and similar our schools and surroundings are.

As majority of people attending easas are senior year students, we would like to bring topic of diploma work into discussion. At our school it is one of the most problematic parts, and as our school is undergoing the process of transformation of curriculum, we feel that overall easa discussion on methodologies of diploma works in european schools, will be mutually beneficial, on one side for our school to shape up existing methodology, and for all easa people, on other side, as getting to know better what is done at different schools and opening some bridges for future communication. Here we ask for your participation.

The idea is that all ncs prepare 5 minutes explanations of how diplomas are done on their schools, using one or two diploma works as examples. After short presentations, we can discuss advantages and disadvantages of different approaches, and how things can be improved or enhanced. We strongly believe that that will enable us to open more further ways for our future cooperation as graduated architects, or even there is a space for some collaboration on diploma level as well.

What is important is that presentations should not be too long, and neither the preparation of it should take a lot of time [we all know how time is precious for all of us]. Furthermore, to make it easier to manipulate with gathered material afterwards [there are some signals from school that they will support publishing some sort of publication as result of discussions, and we will definitely make pdf.book as sort of processions, or some small exhibitions] I will ask you to prepare material in accordance with guidelines provided below.

Discussions will be held on one or two evenings during incm [depending on number of prepared presentations] on our faculty, with our teachers and students present. And I hope we will engage into some interesting discussions, and that some of the conclusions we had are going to be used in reformed diploma work on our school.

I hope this is not too much work for all.

Guidelines:

Pictures and photos – .jpg format, 300 dpi, numbered for slide presentation [pc compatible]
Text – .doc file [pc compatible]

Text should be abstract of presentation on no more than 1 A4 page with some optional illustrations.
Points addressed in text should be:
- what are the requirements for diploma that are preset by faculty [ie. how many parts are of diploma, what kind of projects, etc].
- how do you choose topic for diploma.
- contents of the diploma work
Also include in that text, full name of school [some general info will be beneficial] and name[s] of authors of diploma work used as an example.
So that text can be sort of id card for the methodology and school.
