the war is illegal and immoral

the un have not sanctioned this war, therefore it is illegal and bush and Blair should be liable for war crimes

this war is creating a humanitarian disaster; millions of innocent civilians are expected to die from it

bofore the war started the biggest organised protest in world history happened, up to 20,million people protested against it. in britain the majority of people opposed it, yet blair went against democracy and took britain into a war the people were against

sadam is a bad man, him and his regime are killing iraqis.
yes we all know this, bush is using this as an excuse to attack so that US and co can control the oil, Iraq has second biggest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia

the CIA and Iraq’s neighbouring countries to do feel sadam is a threat = bush’s first lie

there are plenty other terrible regimes, you don’t see bush attacking them; Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tibet.

the worst terror state is Palestine, the Israelis are carrying out near genocide there. the UN have tried to go in and stop this slaughter, 2000+ Palestinians killed in 3 years. but every time US uses its veto, i think they have done this @ 50 times over the years, when France uses their veto to prevent an unwanted war they are branded wrongdoers

the media in US still calls this war “the war on terror”, again CIA claim there is no link between al-queida and sadams regime. the media is so one sided that the unfortunate people of the US are ill informed and will probably suffer more attacks similar to 9.11 due to this illegal war

US has attacked 21 countries since ww2, all occasions it said it would improve life there, untrue. it leaves things worse for the people and exploits the country to satisfy its own imperialist, economic, selfish, unsustainable needs. it promised great things when attacking Afghanistan, all it did was build a massive pipeline for oil and guard it with its troops, Afghanistan is a humanitarian mess at present. about 10 % of the promised aid got there, money now spent on “war on terror”

if and when sadam is defeated war will continue, it is very good for US economy, Syria look like the next target, then Iran, then possibly Russia and china, this could indeed lead to WW3.

meanwhile US and G8 nations unhealthy economic, political systems maintain an unbalanced world with 7,000,000 people dying every year and massive environmental problems growing; this is the real war

more and more people are becoming informed about what is really going on in this world. as architects i would hope you firstly do care for what is going on, secondly inform yourself of what is going on and lastly
DO something about it, inform more people and try to promote a just, peaceful and sustainable world

i just want to point out that i’m not interrested in saying who is good or bad.
war is cruel and kills people.

should ‘easa’ stand up against war? not against bush nor saddam or anybody else but against war itself?

I was informed about an international project competition for architecture and civil engineering students. I think they’ve already sent some info. to nc mails. It is a student organized project competition encouraging the architecture and civil engineering students to work together.
the competition and the events are already settled and almost becoming traditional here, every year, but it was not international before. the sponsor is very strong and enthusiastic about this event.
as much as I see the jury is pretty strong, all composed of famous people in their fields here.
maybe you can take sometime to announce it in your schools, both to civil engineering and architecture students and someone may be interested. I copy and paste a mail they’ve sent here also..

Project Competitions Center (PROYAM), which is a student organization, is holding an international project competition for architecture and civil engineering students.

The subject of Archineering 2003 Project Competition, sponsored by Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturer BORUSAN BORU, has been decided as “International Student Information Center”. Archineering 2003 aims to encourage architecture and civil engineering students to work as a team, to increase the use of steel structures in architectural design and to provide students more experience in the areas of design, calculation and application. Therefore, the competition will be open to international student teams consisting of at least one architecture and one civil engineering students.

The deadline for application is April 18, 2003. The winner, the first runner-up and the second runner-up teams will be rewarded 3000$, 2000$ and 1000$ respectively. Additionally, BORUSAN BORU will present two encouragement prizes of 500$ each. The results of the competition will be announced at the prize ceremony on May 4, 2003, in Istanbul Technical University.

The jury of Archineering 2003 Project Competition consists of Yaþar Marulyalý, Gülsün Saðlamer, Nesrin Yardýmcý, Ivo Daddi, Hülya Yürekli, Murat Kuruoðlu and Nevzat Sayýn.
