Hello!
Since a couple of weeks I’m working for a non-profit
organization SUPERNOVa (created in 1999). It aims at
offering a platform to a not well-known group of young
Belgian architects to inform about their activities.
Supernova created a web site, where young architects
can present their work or their web site on.
In Belgium the platform works really well, so we aim
to enlarge it to an European scale with the help of
the ideas and the contacts of the Easa national
contacts.
The first years after graduating, architects are
rarely remarked by the outside world. Their work does
not get a chance in public discussions about
contemporary architecture and their projects do not
get a lot of attention from the architectural world,
the public and the media. A platform that highlights
the unknown and unlisted work or work in progress of
young architects, lacks.
We may expect, though, that this generation will
educate itself and will soon influence the
architectural landscape. Therefore it seems necessary
to accent this generation, to draw the attention of
the media and to give them a forum by which they can
promote themselves.
An overview of the work of young architects will add
other accents to and will undoubtedly enlarge the
portrayal of architecture that nowadays rules.
At the same time such an overview will stimulate a
debate about contemporary, up-to-date architecture.
To have a really fundamental debate, it is necessary
that young architects can participate in the forming
of a vision on architecture and that their work is a
subject of discussion.
And therefore we need your help!
We would like to get in touch with a lot of young
architects or architect students who have already at
their disposal a web site, and who are interested in
being part of supernova.
If you are an artist, a designer, a member of an
institute or an organization and you want to be linked
to the SUPERNOVa web site, please feel free to fill in

im curious about the main camp, there’s not too much information about the site in the tutors pack.
is it just an open field between forrest and sea – are the common facilities also in tents?
(do i need a waterproof case for my laptop, are there lockers, … ?)
are we able to use the the building of the highschool too?
whats about the average temp this time? do you have pictures about the actual place were the tents will be?
sorry for beeing that curious, but people are asking and i wanna know myself too ;)
ps: are there trees for my hammock ?!?
i fear those you planted for me are not big enough til august, anton ;)

WORLD BANK BOYCOTT
last night we had an economist from senegal, demba dembele, talk to us about the world bank and its negative affects on africa and in particular senegal.
he was joined by a lady from india too.
basically WTO, IMF, world bank, pump money into “developing nations” knowing full well that it comes right back to the leading nations through debt.
a new global network has started up from some “developing nations” and grown into a very well worked out system BOYCOTT WORLD BANK, it tries to get groups to not support the world bank by not usings its BONDS.
already many city municipalities, universities and groups have signed up to this boycott, its modelled on the method which got rid of apartheid in south africa. cities in the united states which have signed up are

this is architectural. if you explore its details you see why. also many NGO environmental groups are behind this boycott due to the UNSUSTAINABLE systems the WORLD BANK enforces, ie dam building and forcing african countries to start buying U.S tomatoes and stop planting their own

sorry for my long absence on the weblog ! but here i am ….
i’m thinking about giving a workshop in denmark. i’m doubting about the subject because in a way it has nothing to do with ecology, but on the other hand one can argue that it has its links in sustainability….

There are two different kinds of topics to focus on: 1. what tendencies are being continued? Is there a gap between the common knowledge of space and the range of ideas by young architects? Are the recurring themes similar in other countries? ….
2. How to judge architecture? And how the find a way to collect, bring together or cluster projects? How to find a mathematic 3D structure to present architecture on the web?
Supernova is focusing on the principle of cluster analysis: how should a collection of objects or individuals, each characterized by a set of variables, be decomposed into homogeneous subgroups? The need to classify in more than 3 dimensions, the large size of many datasets, and the requirement for objective procedures have resulted in the development of automatic classification procedures, the cluster analysis.
As you can see, a lot to think about and a lot to filter before i can shape into a workshop.

Ecotopia 2003 is the summer gathering of the european wide EYFA activist network.
This summer camp is set up as an example of sustainability in all aspects (environmental, economical, social), hopefully a place for exchange and experimentation (in the way of workshops, cleaning activities in the area, etc), and a starting point of future projects.
This year, Ecotopia will take place in Ukraine, in the Ivano-Frankivsk area, from the 20th of August till the 3rd of September.
Ecotopia alternates every year between a country from the so-called Western Europe and a country from the so-called Eastern Europe.
But this time is the first time that it takes place in a former URSS country.
As an example of sustainable transport, every year there is a biketour organized to the ecotopia site.
The offical title for the Ecotopia this year is “YOUNG PEOPLE AND CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES ON HUMAN RIGHTS “.
In this frame it would extremely valuable to have presence, as complete as possible, from the former Yugoslav republics.
Also, one of the practical focuses will be on SUSTAINABLE CITIES.
As Ecotopia takes place in a rural community, ways to overcome the traditional (and painful) differences and barriers countryside/city should also be discussed.
And, last but not least, I think that EYFA and EASA have quite some paralells and could benefit both from the exchange of experiences.
