”Sustainable living” happened @ EASA003 in Denmark
Now we can DO something about it: join in the activities in your city, get all your friends and college mates involved, get your granny down for the street party

Get onto the streets, make them clean, habitable and fun places again



The European Mobility Week and “In town without my car!” initiatives arose from a finding: today almost 40% of the transport sector’s CO2 emissions are produced by the use of private cars in cities.

A switch to more efficient and cleaner forms of transport would contribute to a reduction of traffic congestion, air pollution, traffic related diseases and noise.

Awareness raising, promotion of changes in behaviour and involvement of citizens are the key words for the development of a sustainable and efficient urban transport.

“EASA`s first European architectural event”, was an attempt to get us (Europe’s student architects ) to DO something positive for European car free day last year, to recognise that “cars in the city” is a major SUSTAINABLE issue we have to deal with. In Dublin hundreds of us “reclaimed the streets” and partied. We will be doing so again this sep22 and we hope you also get involved with the RTS street parties in your area. Check your local INDYMEDIA website to get further local details,

hello,
i’m babici,
i have read on the net about straw houses and i wonder how are these houses built?
i can’t believe they have any structural resistence,the rest of the building is a classical steel frame or the strucure resides only from the straw bales?

After speaking to Johannes on building up the Easa Archive I’ve dug out old some old umbrellas.
At the first attempt I’ve found;
4 from 1995
6 from 1996
3 from 1997

Hopefully I’ll get them scanned tomorrow and they can be added to the site.

does anyone has a clue how to get those easa movies (film about VIS and short ones from this year…)Would be great to have them before INCM; for buisiness and pleasure. Most of all for not loosing “D Feeling” which is still present!!!

Hi all Easa003 participants!

I have just returned to copenhagen after a few days of dissemblimg the camp at Kalø. First I´d like to thank all the tutors for the cooperation with us, the workshop and material crew. And then to all the participants that made this a really good experience under the blue skies of Kalø. Me and the rest of the crew had an excellent time helping you out with all the material needs, hanging out in strawbales, drinking beers, nightswimming etc. Today it feels like I just stepped out of an spaceship, returning from the parallel universe of EASA. It is another world, and what a world.. Thanks again, I had such a great time, hope to see you next year, hopefully as a tutor to the coolest workshop ever..

emails, instant messenger, and webpages kept us informed during this years EASA like no other ! i remember coming back from EASAs , having to read newspapers and find out, what happenend in the world, country or simply in the neighborhood. we at Paraply tried to react on that online-availabilty and not only have lots of paper lying around for you to pack in your lunch for Friland. Our Internetconnection even spread that far, we received news from Friends of Turkeys and Croatian EASA participants, some even helping out in the newspaper from their home PC. Furthermore we do not wish to end duty with this days edition, but even keep posting stories from you. what exciting things happened to you on your way back or who do you miss the most. Check this webspace for more news, what happened after the participants left and the free booze for the organizers and other leftovers was rolled out. Find out if the kitchen crew will ever forgive the Irish and what really happened in the hammocks ! and of course there will be a link area for all your ppictures that you want to share with your EASA friends

Emergency newsflash> High risk of US attack on EASA. 2 jet fighters were spotted at @ 9.15 this morning flying low over our site. A man who works in the US embassy in Istanbul also visited us yesterday. We cannot be definite about an attack, but we are taking precautions> some of the Serbians are giving immediate advice and workshops on what to do if and when we are attacked. Wednesday 6th August 2003

From: Paraply (Umbrella), EASA003, Denmark

400 students of Architecture from 33 countries have gathered at a campsite near Århus, Denmark for EASA003, the European Architecture Students Assembly 2003.

Over 20 workshops are taking place between the 27th July and 10th August with the theme as sustainability. The projects range in scale from ashtrays made of waste materials, conceptual discussion to three new-builds using strawbale, timber and compressed board construction.

The main construction project is the Econ pavilion, an exhibition centre designed by a team from Slovenia who won the Econ competition that was held between February and April 2003. The pavilion is a play between solidity and the void, construction is mirrored, with opposing sides posing alternative experiences.

Every evening a lecture or film provokes much discussion into the question, “What is Sustainable Living and how does it relate to Architecture?” We believe that this is an important event as Architecture affects everybody in everyday situations. As a group of soon-to-be Architects we have an opportunity to redefine what that relationship is.
