GLOBALISATION AND THE MEDIA was the documentary screened in the umbrella tent during EASA003 in denmark. it is going to be screened soon in DIT (dublin institute of technology) school of architecture and i am wondering whether there is anyone else who would like a copy of the documentary and is willing to show the film in their college.
i can burn and post you a copy. its from “informed dissent”, an undercurrents cd rom which also includes much other v relevant info about what is going on in the world today. world renowned philosopher noam chomsky offers much info on what the US is doing today.
it would be an exciting project if there was a few nodes around europe showing this film at the same time, and then meeting up in an online chatroom to discuss things after. as was proposed here

A few months ago we started a new organisation intending to stimulate the international contacts for architecture students. (I didn’t know that EASA exists). It’s called CRE-ARP, Creative Architecture Platform. In december we want to organise a seminar in Rotterdam in association with the international organisation of history students. (ISHA) Named: Architecture vs. History.
Check our website, it’s new, but within a few weeks you will have some more infromation.

Location: 4780 Recht, Belgium
1997-1998
Architect: Yves Delhez

¬ Structure: tree-trunks (spruce, larch)
¬ Cladding: oak, larch and cedar (non-treated)
¬ Roof: slate and planted

”The house is situated hillside of a former railway-embankment. The central volume of the building is quite narrow and stretched and closed by a flat roof. The latter is completely covered with arable earth where shrubs and other vegetation will be planted.
Inside an arch symbolizes a bridge and the wooden floor lays on simple tree-trunks which are placed in a staggered arrangement – as they were in the forest.”

Delhez generally tries to use some traditional technique to give the buildings some sculptural effect. Yet here he stayed quite sober in his formal language. Somehow the house does not really look as being located in Belgium.

Hi …

I wanted to submit a proposal to the readers of this weblog. It’s a little in the same spirit as had been asked what was going on in “your part of the world”, just going on turning the question “architectural”.

”A project per week” would be the challenge:
Invitation to all of u to post a pic and some lines and maybe some links presenting an architectural project (in the broadest definition)that you like or dislike, that has appealed to you or disgusted you, which has araised some emotion in you that you’d like to share. The aim of the challenge would be to have at least one project presented per week.

Of course that could be a project from your country/region which maybe does not have that big an audition. But that’s up to you to decide.

A (little) start is made – feel free to comment, question, discuss ;-)

i just wanted to say hello – right now im in santiago de chile. i joined a workshop witch took place in buenos aires and moved on to mendoza and now chile…
its really great to meet that many people here (actually im sleeping in the place of a guy i met in maine when i was visiting mike scott – tutor from easa2002/croatia – in the states).
saturday we are goin to valparaiso – it was told to be one of the best architecture schools in america. actually the pictures looked quite imperssive as the students are able to build their drafts 1:1
im looking forward to go there and will try to post some images later on…

i also met some people in BsAs related to elea – but i fear i cant afford the 1’000.- euro it costs for just one week. altough it would be awsome but…. sorry.

This VIRTUAL “EASA communication space” is the meeting place for firstly the students of architecture from all of Europe and secondly for anyone else who wants to be here. It is a space to discuss issues, exchange ideas or/ and to have a laugh.

We are a community, they normally communicate with each other.
Today I don’t think we talk to each other too much
There are many issues that can be looked at in ark(architecture). I believe it is an amazing creative area and with that there should be a lot of discussion about architectural issues. Unfortunately though, since this space has been alive for over a year?, very little discussion has happened in here, (untill recently with the “jelk –vs- dunk” fight)

attempts have been made to try to encourage others in the community to share their ideas here and to get more and more people involved in developing this space into a dynamic lively and interesting space so as together we can explore more and more areas of ark. I have emailed nc`s and asked them to contribute things to this site and asked them to encourage people to use it.
In Denmark I tried to further develop this “EASA communication space” in the REAL world by setting up talks in the Umbrella tent at night and by putting up 2 big boards over the doorways with “sharing ideas” written on them.
What will this space be like in 1 year, 2 years, 10 years……..

what sort of space would the most exciting one in the world be? what could we do?

Does anyone have the complete tutors email list? i remember they were all written somewhere.
Well maybe there is someone that was a participant at the workshop of the slovenian Aleksander Ostan…

EASA community:

I think it will be a good idea if the webmaster of this site (Marko JP) just deletes all the postings that are not related to EASA. It will prevent useless discussion on (stupid) matters, which are taking away any possibilities for communication on real EASA matters. Also I think postings that are unfounded (that is without any arguments) should be deleted for the same reason.

I think we should not want the EASA weblog appear as a waste bin of fanatic unfounded propaganda, or as a webspace for irrelevant discussions, as it is distracting and confusing for ourselves and for visitors interested in EASA.

9.11 two years on

Why?

Why is the most important question there was to be asked after 9.11 was it asked? It was a horrible event but it showed the world that many people are against the US and its forced empire which includes the unfair economic systems of WTO, IMF and world bank. It will serve as a benchmark in time in the future. When will architecture start to seriously deal with these issues of trade and globalisation?
I have lived in the united states and have family there, I feel sorry for them as the government, the education system and the media is not fully informing its citizens of what is going on in the outside world, with the result of probably more horrific attacks such as 9.11.
