i just openend up the channel #easa on iRCnet and everyone is welcome to join and idle
just download the client mIRC on www.mirc.com and once the program is running, connect to a IRCnet in your vincinity under options/connect (ie.: IRCnet : EU, DE ) and connect to the #easa channel.
the more people join this channel, the more activity there will be, files can be transfered and knowledge shared, and if your computer runs 24/7 or longer just stay in the channel as irc hardly needs any bandwidth

hey,
does someone know where the new updated NC list can be seen? You know that data (e-mail address, telephone, age, gender, incom,…:)) we wrote them down in Marco’s or Johannese’s laptop…I guess.
It’s just that some of us (or just me) were to lasy to make a print there or to write addresses down.

here is info about the icq
icq is an online chat program in which everyone has a nick name and an icq number with which you can find people. everyone forms a contact list of themselves by adding users with their icq numbers.
to use it you have to download that chat program..
to do this you can enter www.icq.com and in this adress you can start downloading by clicking the button “download icq” I can’t remember the exact procedure of this downloading stage. then you have to register. while registering for a number the program will ask you for info, like a nick name which you should provide, and additional info like your name, interests, phone numbers etc which you are free not to provide,but will make others to find you easier. once you download the program and register with a nick name, you can run the program. to form a contact list of people whom you know using icq you have to click “add” button, to add users. in the window opened you can write either the icq number of the person you want to add to your list or if you don’t know the name, nick name and that stuff.
once you add people to your list you’ll be able to see whenever those people are online on the net when you enter the net and you’ll be able to speak to them directly.
those who are already using the programme wrote their numbers or how they could be accessed from icq to the nc info list, so we’ll be able to add eachother to our contact lists soon.
anyway, download the programme sometime soon, ask any questions if you have any..

everybody remember one of Duncan’s proposals about keeping in touch which is to show films at our faculties at the same time and then lead our people into discussions in the platforms we formed in internet.
We have a group in my faculty periodicly showing films on mondays and thursdays under the name of “design cinema days” in school. It is not an official group or any organization under the school but just a group of interested students who have access to a lot of films.
If there is any intention to do this network I can easily contact and want them to do a little more work to lead their audience (which is a conciderable amount of architecture students becouse a lot of people know about their programs)into our discussion groups into the name of an organization done together with EASA.
anyway.. here is a list of their program for the rest of this semester:

most of these films are probably films we already saw but I still think it would be interesting to watch them again and join platforms in which you can go into discussions with people of very different perspectives esp. becouse of geography and education and all.
Duncan has already made a list in the incm of films to be shown relying on our very different tastes as people all around europe..
and..well I don’t yet know what else to do, if you have any suggestion or idea to realize this project together (or enough knowledge in computers to form the platforms, something I’m incapable of at the moment:) ) tell so and let’s get a move on

just came back… what a trip! 1 hour in the queue for ckeck in, 1/2 hour delay for boarding, screaming babies in the row in front of me, no meal and last but not least no f&/%ing luggage due to the strike in copenhagen.
i wonder if anybody leaving copenhagen today after 2pm got his luggage…
however, so i dont have to carry it up to my 3rd floor ;-)

FUSPEY comes to brookes. lots of fun for ark school
hello all
duncan here from DS4, 5th year diploma. just letting you know about a few very exciting things you might want to get involved with both in and out of brookes
- student regeneration of heart of the architectural school; crit space, info and computer area, social space (and possibly the new cafe?) first meeting to discuss things thr @ 1pm – crit space
- the FUSPEY lecture, lloyd lecture theatre thr 6pm. given by myself and will include first presentation to brookes students of EASA, the european architectural student assembly. 1000 + of us will be going to a danish island for a 2 week long workshop this summer, theme; sustainability. lots of fun.
this event will be followed by the showing of 2 short films in the crit space @ 7pm. tea, coffee and biscuits will be served, and possibly some free wine, check website for updates on this
- there is an ongoing project; “experimental communication space” which happens in the crit space every thursday, 6pm onward. it is a social space for interaction between the whole school of architecture

i just posted a post at
www.archeire.com ( the irish architectural website)
announcing that EASA is looking for 2 irish architectural students to be this years national contacts.
and the webmaster pulled it off his site. i used the name “easa”. “duncan” is banned from this site. this action affects the EASA community. will you do something about it. i hope you will.
i am specifically asking the danish EASA2003 organizers to adresss this problem by posting a similar post at archeire
i would ask everyone to challenge this ultra- censorship. by loggin onto www.archeire.com and raise this debate. again; its all about COMMUNICATION

EASA- european architectural students assembly is looking for 2 irish architectural students to be national contacts
they are invited to;
to INCM (Intermediate National Contact Meeting) in Denmark from the 10th-17th of No-vember*.
The aim of the meeting is to discuss the future EASA events , especially the EASA2003, and evaluate this years summer meeting in Croatia.
The European Architecture Students Assembly EASA is a non-political non-profit organiza-tion that is made up of students of architecture and related disciplines from all European countries.
EASA is a practical network for communication, meeting and exchange of ideas, arising from EASA-activities. Architecture students find a platform on which they can discuss their ideas, work together and exchange their experiences concerning architecture, education or life in general.
The INCM is of big importance for the EASA network – since this is the opportunity to bring the National Contacts together in order to exchange informations and keep the NC net-work alive. This years INCM is organized by architect students from Copenhagen and Aar-hus.

some thoughts about your pre-occupations you mentioned in my weblog.

I think that the weakness and at the same time the strength of easa might be it’s impermanent aspect.
People meeting there are having their lives and most probably a lot to do else than trying to hold permanent contact. That might be considered being weakness.
On the other hand, just becos they are living their very different lives without being in touch all the time, it’s all the more interesting to meet once or twice a year altogether (300-500 people – you should take care not to exagerate ;-) ). I think what matters is not the quantity of inforamtion we communicate but the quality and density.
Certain things are meant to emerge for a certain time and then disapear for another while to better re-appear later again (remember those kinda mushrooms in the woods which are constituted of a multitude of individual “units” that small that they cannot be seen and which are forming something strong when conditions are good? and then disappering later).
Most easa people are having some few contacts according to their affinities, but those contacts are not necessarily “big movements” and they don’t have to to be efficient. It’s in those little links that easa-spirit is kept alive.
If people do not communicate here, it might be because it’s a public place. People behave differently when being in different groups and differently than they would when being alone. The whole is not just the sum of the parts – remember? So people being at home in their context and “social networks” do not behave as they did in the easa-network which emerges once a year. Sorry if I’m not very clear … I hope most of you should be able to understand in between the written lines what I meant.

There too I’d think about the scale of steps to take and to consider. As I said already somewhere else here: little steps on a way – quite unseen – are often more efficient than big once. If big once can be taken – all the better, but no one should be frustrated if that doesnt work when trying to make big steps. Most important is not the speed at which a way is gone but the fact that it is gone. And making little steps you often can be more careful about “details” you oversee when trying to take several stairs at once. (You remember the hypersensibility of any system to it’s initial conditions? slight differences in “details” can make a big big difference. We should be careful about details).
In my school infrastructure is bad, very bad. But in some way, just because there’s just nothing, we – or most of us – learned and are learning a lot. And some of us learned about the importance of communication (intuitively). We had a drawing room, where some years ago a class started just selling drinks (it’s very hot there in summer), and little by little, that became a real little bar given over year by year from one class to another. After selling just drinks, some made it more comfortable bringing some seads along, another year we changed the whole configuration of the room – and every two years it seems that it’s getting more and more an experimental field for little interventions on a space we – as a group – appropriate ourselves. There’s work there, exchange, laughing, thinking together (all through the different years/classes), a year ago even the civil engineers discovered this room as being not that bad and they are spending their lunchtime with us sometimes and evenare working sometimes with us.
It’s actually not a big deal, but if I tell you that, it’s just to show you that little steps – just done because some small group of person thought them right to be taken – are moving things ahead. But one has to be patient to realize that they did.
Recently I wanted to try to get them to online com-spaces and made another weblog:

It’s not a big deal neither – just a little step in a direction I feel being right. I’m curious to see at what pace that way is gonna be taken – either way it’s gonna be okay.
