{"id":695,"date":"2007-05-19T11:39:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-19T10:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/easa.antville.org\/stories\/1633673\/"},"modified":"2007-05-19T11:39:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-19T10:39:00","slug":"urban-observatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/easa.paradeiser.net\/?p=695","title":{"rendered":"urban observatory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Came across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turkishdailynews.com.tr\/article.php?enewsid=73426\">this rather nice article<\/a> about a french guy, Jean-Fran&ccedil;ois Perouse, working for the Institut Francais d&#8217;Etudes Anatoliennes in Istanbul &#8211; something they call the  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifea-istanbul.net\/\">Observatoire Urbain d&#8217;Istanbul<\/a><br \/>&#10;<br \/>&#10;&#8221;The cement folly of the Esenler bus station, the &Uuml;skudar heights on the Asian side, Samatya and Edikule, are regular haunts for Perouse, who &#8220;reads&#8221; the city in the key of urban geography and social anthropology.&#8221;<br \/>&#10;<br \/>&#10;&#8221;Perouse is currently working an a project for Paris publishing house Kallimages based on a series of anonymous photos from the 1900s. &#8220;It is as though the photographer had just stepped off the tourist boat, with no knowledge of mosques and churches. Literally, the anti-Orientalist,&#8221; says Perouse, who has added a fictional narrative to the images.&#8221;<br \/>&#10;<br \/>&#10;How is that for thinking City Index! Could he be a guy to pull in for a lecture this summer?
